Fake Permit Fee Invoices
It has come to our attention that zoning permit applicants are being targeted by a scam involving fraudulent invoices for large permit-related fees.
Scammers may use real project, property, or application details to make their messages appear legitimate. These emails often create urgency and demand payment by wire transfer or ACH.
Do not pay, reply to, or click links in these emails. Messages may appear convincing, but they originate from non-official email addresses.
Town of Waterbury employees will never demand permit payments through urgent email requests, wire transfers, or ACH instructions.
If you receive a suspicious invoice or payment request, contact the Town of Waterbury directly using the official contact information on the Town’s website before taking any action.
