Secretary for the Planning Commission and Development Review Board

The Town of Waterbury seeks to contract with a new secretary for the Planning Commission and the Development Review Board (DRB).  The secretary will take minutes for the Planning Commission and take minutes and format the decisions on development projects for DRB. The Planning Commission currently meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and the DRB meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The meetings typically last approximately two hours with the DRB meetings occasionally lasting up to three hours. The secretary is paid a flat rate of $80.00 per meeting. The Town is seeking to contract with a secretary as soon as possible. Town of Waterbury Camp Director

The Town of Waterbury seeks to hire a Camp Director

Job Title: Camp Director                                                                           Department: Recreation

Status: Hourly. Negotiable for Full-time or Part-time
Compensation: up to $25/hour commensurate with experience

Job Summary:
Waterbury Recreation is looking for multiple Camp Directors (3 FTEs) to lead the 2024 Summer Camp. The Camp Directors will implement and supervise the 2024 Summer Camp for the Town of Waterbury. The Camp Directors will work directly with campers to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised camp. The positions are responsible for implementing activity planning and projects, a positive learning environment, establishing a positive rapport with students and guardians, counselors, and preparing materials and supplies.Ahead of summer hours, Camp Directors will be required to have 1-3 planning sessions with the Recreation Director and Program Coordinator to prepare for camp.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The Camp Directors will:

  • Oversee the high-level operations of Summer Camp
  • Evaluates the camp daily to suggest improvement, needs, hazards, and/or trends
  • Handle communications with guardians in a timely manner
  • Develop and adjust programming to meet camp needs
  • Assist with the training of program staff
  • Administrative work pertaining to programs
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and materials for camp operations
  • Drive campers in town vehicles

Required Skills/Abilities:
The Camp Directors will need to have:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • The ability to supervise seasonal staff
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work independently and with others
  • The ability to serve, communicate with, and work with a diverse population
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe programs (preferred)
  • Experience with MyRec.com software (preferred)
  • Must pass criminal background check and fingerprinting

Education and Experience:
The Camp Directors must have:

  • 2-4 years of related experience, preferably in a position supervising programs and other staff, OR
  • A combination of experience and education that may be considered equivalent to the previous requirement – College work in a related area (Recreation, Athletics, Education, Business, Public Administration) is helpful; an Associate’s Degree at minimum is preferred.
  • Mandated Reporter training*
  • CPR/First Aid Certification* (preferred)
  • Lifeguard certification (preferred)

*These certifications shall be part of training should they not currently be held

Status: Hourly, Seasonal
Wages: Up to $23/hr and commensurate with experience

Job Summary:
The Summer Camp Head Counselors will oversee the day-to-day at each of our camp locations. Head Counselors will work directly with students to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised summer camp experience, while also maintaining a good rapport with parents and the community. Head Counselors will be responsible for implementing daily activities, maintaining an organized camp, and communicating with counselors and other staff; they will also engage with families daily and must have strong communication skills. We are seeking qualified, engaged, and motivated individuals with experience in education, youth and children's programs, or a related field; candidates should be ready to commit to an 8-week summer program with a full-time work schedule, plus training, prep, and cleanup time.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The Head Counselors will:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of their assigned camp location
  • Assist in camp programming and lead camp activities
  • Guide counselors
  • Help with logistics of field trips and excursions
  • Communicate with other camp directors and Recreation Department staff
  • Evaluate the program daily to suggest improvement, needs, hazards, and/or trends to Recreation Department staff for further evaluation
  • Handle communications with parents/guardians, counselors, and campers
  • Maintain organization of camp spaces and materials throughout the summer

Required Skills/Abilities:
The Head Counselors will need to have:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply
  • Experience working with youth in various settings
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Strong organization, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think on your feet
  • The ability to work in a team
  • The ability to manage a group of counselors
  • The ability to serve, communicate with, and work with a diverse population

Education and Experience:
The Head Counselors must have:

  • 2 years of related experience, preferably in a position managing programs and other staff, OR
  • A combination of experience and education that may be considered equivalent to the previous requirement – education in a related area (Recreation, Athletics, Education, Business, Public Administration) is helpful;

Job Summary:

Camp Counselors will work directly with students to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised summer camp experience, while also maintaining a good rapport with parents and the community. Camp Counselors will be responsible for participating in and often instructing daily activities, helping maintain an organized camp, and sharing important information with head counselors and other staff; they will also engage with families daily and must have strong communication skills. We are seeking qualified, engaged, and motivated individuals with experience in youth and children's programs. Candidates should be ready to commit to an 8-week summer program with a full-time work schedule, plus training, prep, and cleanup time.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the day-to-day operations of their assigned camp location
  • Instruct and help instruct camp activities
  • Understand the logistics of field trips and excursions
  • Share important information with head counselors and camp directors
  • Build positive rapport with campers, including but not limited to being able to adapt quickly due to weather, unforeseen schedule changes, etc.

  • Help prep, clean, and maintain organization of camp spaces and materials throughout the summer

Pool Staff (multiple positions)

Job Title: Pool Staff (multiple positions)                             Department: Recreation

Status: Hourly, Seasonal
Wages: Front Desk starts at $15/hr, Lifeguards start at $16/hr and both are commensurate with experience

Job Summary:
The Waterbury Pool Staff will oversee safety at our municipal pool. Lifeguards will work directly with students to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised pool experience. Lifeguards will have the opportunity to become certified before summer. Daily activities will be to maintain safety, cleanliness, and follow procedures, guidelines, and policies.

Front Desk staff will be responsible to checking in pool visitors, maintaining an organized lobby space, and staffing the sales kiosk (food and items).

We are seeking qualified, engaged, and motivated individuals with experience in aquatics and swimming. Candidates should be ready to commit to an 8-week summer program with a full-time work schedule, plus training, prep, and cleanup time.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The Lifeguards will:

  • Have a positive attitude and communication with parents/guardians, counselors, and campers
  • Participate in the day-to-day operations
  • Supervise swimming activities at the municipal pool
  • Warn of unsafe activities and enforce water safety policies and pool regulations
  • Provide first aid in the event of an injury, rescuing swimmers in danger or distress and administering CPR if necessary
  • Inspect pool equipment, facilities and water to make sure they are usable and safe.
  • Open and close the pool each day, depending on schedule and hours
  • May instruct or assist swim lessons

Front Desk Staff will:

  • Have a positive attitude and communication with parents/guardians, counselors, and campers
  • Greet and assist all pool guests
  • Record every visitor for daily visits, sales, and historic record keeping
  • Lead sales kiosk for snack bar and swimming accessories

Required Skills/Abilities:
All Pool Staff will need to have:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Desire to stay organized, be patient and practice problem solving
  • The ability to work in a team
  • The ability to serve, communicate with, and work with a diverse population

Education and Experience:
